Nagano Prefecture, known for having 29 of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains, is one of Japan's premier mountainous regions. Among these renowned peaks lies Hakuba Village, nestled at the foot of the Hakuba Range, including the iconic Mt. Hakuba (Shirouma-dake). This village, a region established by those in the mountain guiding profession, has a history of beckoning people to the mountains in the summer and serving as a world-renowned snow resort with the finest snow quality in the winter, attracting visitors from all over the globe.
Hidden among these mountain guides was a well-kept secret—a picturesque gem known as Kitaone Kogen, located at an elevation of 1200 meters on the middle part of the mountain of Hakuba Happo-one Ridge.

Hakuba Onsen TourHakuba is a rarity in Japan, boasting six hot spring (onsen) sources in one village: Hakuba Happo Onsen, Hakuba Shionomichi Onsen, Hakuba Himekawa Onsen, Hakuba Mizubasho Onsen, Hakuba Katakuri Onsen, and Hakuba Ryujin Onsen. There is a wide variety of spring qualities, ranging from Hakuba Shionomichi Onsen, which has been confined within the fossa magna for over 25 million years and turns dark brown when exposed to air, to Hakuba Happo Onsen, which is a natural hydrogen hot spring. Kurobe DamThe Kurobe Dam, one of the largest dams in Japan, is located beyond the Ushiro-Tateyama mountain range on the border of Nagano and Toyama prefectures. It was completed in 1963 after seven years of construction and a total cost of 51.3 billion yen, thanks to the efforts of a total number of over ten million man‐days. The water discharge from this dam, boasting a height of 186 meters, overwhelms spectators at a rate of 10 to 15 tons per second. Matsumoto CastleIt is said that Fukashi Castle built in 1504 during the Warring States period is the precursor of Matsumoto Castle. Matsumoto Castle, located in the Matsumoto Basin at an elevation of 590 meters, is famous as the oldest among the 12 existing castles with five-story and six-story keeps, and it was designated a national treasure in 1936. Its striking contrast of black and white against the backdrop of the Alpine mountains creates a magnificent view. -
Togakushi ShrineTogakushi Shrine, located at the foot of Mt. Togakushi, a sacred mountain, consists of five shrines: Okusha, Chusha, Houkosha, Kuzuryusha, and Hinomikosha. With a history spanning over two thousand years, it is said to have developed around Togakushi Mountain, which is known to have taken its present form after the door of "Amano-Iwato (Cave of the Sun Goddess) " flew down in the distant divine past. The shrine enshrines gods who contributed to the "Amanoiwato Opening Ritual." -
Zenkoji TempleZenkoji Temple, with a history of approximately 1400 years, is one of Japan's leading temples.The temple's principal deity, "Amida Nyorai of One Light and Three Buddhas," is believed to have been presented by King Seimei of Baekje in 552, making it Japan's oldest Buddha statue. However, it remains an absolute secret Buddha, and its appearance is never revealed. The current main hall, designated as a national treasure, was completed after five years of construction in 1707 during the Edo period. -
